Hey lovely friend!

Are you stuck in that soul-crushing place where you’re dragging yourself to a job that makes you miserable?

If you’re nodding your head thinking “YES!!” then you’re definitely not alone…

In fact: Over 50% of people in the US are disengaged at work. That’s wild, right?

You spend roughly 40 hours a week at your job – more time than with family, friends, or doing things that bring you joy…so if that job is something you actively dislike, just think about how that’s impacting your life a whole.

Honestly, this breaks my heart a little bit, and that’s why I’m here to help you fix it.

I’ve been coaching people through career transitions for 5+ years, and over that time I’ve learned a few things. Here’s the 5 step career change process I’ve tested and tuned with clients over my entire career. Trust me, it works.

The first step is to fully acknowledge that what’s happening right now isn’t working. So many people get stuck telling themselves “maybe this isn’t too bad” or “I could stay here a little longer.”

Here’s a powerful exercise: Imagine you’re 75 years old, looking back on your life. What do you wish you had done differently? If that older version of you says “I wish I’d done something different,” that’s your sign it’s time to change NOW.

Once you’ve committed to change, dive deep into self-discovery:

  • What do you genuinely enjoy?
  • What are you naturally good at?
  • How do you want to spend your days?
  • What kind of life do you want to build?

If you’re going to invest energy into building a career, it needs to fit the life you want.

From your discovery, you’ll identify “puzzle pieces” – elements that could create a fulfilling career. Narrow these down to the most important ones in four categories:

  • Things you love (your passions)
  • Things you’re good at (your skills)
  • How you want to live (PTO, travel, family time?)
  • Your personality (introverted/extroverted, bubbly/serious?)

A few potential career paths will naturally rise to the surface.

Now you might have 4-5 jobs you’re interested in, but you’re not sure if they’re right for you. This is where you talk to real people who actually do these jobs.

Personal story: In my early twenties, I took a job that looked amazing on paper. But I hadn’t talked to anyone who actually did it. Turns out, you only got paid when clients showed up – and my clients (kids) didn’t show up 40% of the time!

If I’d talked to ONE person doing that job, they would have told me this immediately.

Keep having these conversations, and you WILL find a career you’re excited to pursue.

Networking is how the majority of my clients get their jobs. Find people who do the job you want, ask for informational interviews, and at the end ask: “Do you know anyone who’s hiring? Anyone else you’d recommend I speak to?”

Eventually someone will say, “Actually, we’re hiring! Let me connect you with HR.”

That’s how you get the job.

These five steps are your roadmap out of that job you hate and into something that actually lights you up. You don’t have to be 100% certain about your next move – there might be multiple careers that would feel amazing for you, and that’s totally okay!

You are unique, wonderful, and have so much to offer the world. Not by trying to be what other people think you should be, but by being authentically YOU.

You’ve got this, my friend! ✨
